I don't know what some of these parents are talkin about but this is a great school. they have zero tolerance for bullying or drug and alcohol use. they make all the students well rounded with various subjects and electives to choose from. they are very proud of their school and they show it in the community and at pep-rallies. if your looking for a school for your child, this is the one!!!
I have a student in college and doing very well as a result of going through Sayre. He got college credits while at SHS and that saved the family money as well. The teachers are, for the most par, very good. The principal is remote, but the vice principal, guidance and office staff are great. I also still have a child in the school. It is still very safe and well run. They absolutely do not tolerate kids who want to disrupt classes. They also expect kids to do homework, so kids who don't get detentions. They are a serious school but there is lots of fun and plenty of activities. They have placed some kids in national competition in some of their extracurricular activities, such as FBLA! I am glad our job brought us here!
Sayre High School is one of the best schools that you would want your children to attend. The teachers as well as the administrators have always been very professional. It's not about money, it's about obtaining the best education for your children!
This school is the worst. The school leadership is interested in only themselves. Its about money and prestige at this school. If you are not one of the elite in the area, and let me tell you this area is totally stuck on themselves, then you don't matter. The principal and vice principle are the worst. It's like talking to politicians. The double talk and run around is absurd. Do yourself a favor, go next door to the Athens school district. It is a great school district and they truly care about the kids and parents!
Best school ever Great availability of music, art, sports, and other extracurricular activities very high level of parent involvement
My children went to Sayre High School and that is the reason that they are in private school now. Yes the classes are small, but if asked I am sure that others will agree that the teachers can be rude and dismissive about issues. They don't want to do their jobs, they want to sit back and have the parents do their job for them. Safety is not an issue in Sayre if you have a popular child. But the drugs and smoking... I believe that some parents need to actually talk to their children to find out what is really going on! It is not a great school. It's not even a good school.
Sayre may not appear to be a great school when compared to larger, more modern schools - - but it is by far an excellent high school. The teacher/student ratio is quite low compared to other public schools. The teacher's are incredibly responsive to parents - they are also very accessible to the students. The Parent Connect software used by the district to track grades and homework is an awesome asset for parents. We live in California now and cannot believe that the so-called progressive schools here have no means to communicate such things to the parents. Guess we were spoiled at Sayre! The administrative staff is very available and the academics were above-average. Our son was challenged, safe and happy at Sayre.
Our son has been at this school for two years, and for the size of the community we are very pleased. Low student-teacher ratio, zero tolerance for violence or drugs and good academics. Class choice is limited and there is no diversity in the student population. Extra-curricular choices are also limited. Sports program is average. There are no programs for after-school activities outside of sports. The teachers and staff are very accessible.
Almost all of the teachers and staff are exceptional people; they care for the students; they give more than 100%; and they provide knowledge in a way that the students can remember it. We meet with teachers and staff regularly to keep current and to find out how we can help our child.
The teachers from the school are for the most part above and beyond the norm. They work very hard and do a very good job educating the students. Beyond that unfortunately the math program falls short at college. Sayre teaches the Saxon from of math which helps the students as long as they have the books and remember all of the formulas. When the students enter college these skills fail them as the students can find the correct answer but not the correct form which is also very important to professors. Detention is very popular at this school and is given when unnecessary and in situations where the school has no place to give. Students that are caught doing 'bad things' such as drinking outside of school are often punished not only by parents and the police but by the school as well. This is a case of high discipline but at the same time low safety. the programs to deter students from such behavior are of low quality. Students are also put into categories and are bound to stay there despite the students most sincere efforts to change. Sports at Sayre are usually a bust with the exception of some shinning years in certain areas, like soccer and basketball. It is a very small school competing with normally larger better supplied schools. This is fine but at the same time gives the student a distinct disadvantage for college sports are almost always out of the question at least at bigger and better schools.
