Too great a focus on extracurriculars, while important science and history courses languish. No US Civics course. Some AP courses strong. Psychology AP has a 50% failure rate on national exam for many years. Avoid it. Bullying a serious problem as is drug/alcohol abuse.
I'm a former student and thimk that selisgrove high school academics are horrible. The school only cares about the students who praticpate in sports and gives them special attention.
I'm currently a junior at selinsgrove area high school. I love the freedom and atmosphere. Of couse there are 'clicks' just like any other highschool, but the teachers are wonderful and its always a comfortable enviornment. Selinsgrove offers a variety of classes for everyone, from foreign lanuage to CAD and popular music trends. I really like my school.
I am a former student of this school. I really enjoyed the college type atmosphere and for the most part my education benifited from it. I would have to say that the English department is suffering quite a bit and when I came to college I really struggled because of it. The faculty for the most part cares about the students, but I cannot say the same for the administration. Be completely prepared to deal with intense politics as your only way to get anywhere. Overall in terms of education this is a great school, but everything else for the high school experience (i.e. sports, social aspects, etc.) are very very political and can cause quite a large amount of stress for many of the students.
I'm a former student of this school. I did not particularly care for the high school. It has 90 minute blocks which makes it incredibly difficult to make it through the day with so little rotation. Certain teachers did not seem to show respect to me, and I had a poor experience with them. All the other schools in Selinsgrove are excellent, but I just don't care for their current system. Still, I have to say that it's a good school to attend, just be ready to put up with strict policies and a college type atmosphere.
I am not a parent I am a former student. I found Selinsgrove High School to be one of the best schools that I have ever been to. I love the care that the teachers put out there for the students and I became very close to many. I am from the class of 2004 and I can't wait to come back and visit.
