Year after year, the Friends school continues to impress us. My child is currently in a class with 11 others whereas a similar public school classroom has 28. The ability to individualize each students day in maximum efforts to flourish their budding personalities and developing brains is the key component to a positive educational foundation. My child has gained the ability to explore, imagine and create in ways he has never known.

Friends School emphasizes Quaker values (simplicity, equality, community, peace, and integrity) in a setting where children are encouraged to think critically and deeply, to question, and to learn in their own way. It's a really unique community of parents, teachers, and children working collaboratively and learning and growing together.

We can not say enough positive things about the Friends School. The curriculum focuses on the whole child. The teachers weave social, emotional, and spiritual concepts into the rigorous academic work each day. The children are active and engaged, and are allowed to fully explore concepts with a hands-on, real-world problem solving approach. There is a real focus on the child as an individual, and everything about the classroom structure is devoted to ensuring that each child's needs are met, not only academically, but socially, emotionally and spiritually. Our 7-year-old is learning concepts like conflict management and resolution that most adults have yet to learn! Our child, who struggled with behavioral/boredom issues in the public school, has simply blossomed at the Friends School. Their loving approach to behavior modification and discipline has brought out the very best in him, and the stimulating environment keeps him focused and engaged. A++++!

We are EXTREMELY pleased with the State College Friends School. The curriculum is phenomenal, the teachers are exceptional and the environment is friendly and supportive. My twins come home from school singing songs about Rosa Parks, and Happy Birthday in 6 languages; they have grown a garden from seeds, done litmus paper testing, written, illustrated and published their own books, explained the conflict escalator and taught me new Yoga moves. Can you believe they are in Kindergarten???

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
