SIES is a very innovative school. The have a great team of staff members that form the Response to Intervention and Instruction Team (RTII). The team looks at the whole child,...academics, emotions, behaviors, and plan what teacher and interventions would work best. The teachers advise several after school fitness and socially-minded clubs. The arts and music programs are superb as is attested by the annual art show and 3rd and 4th grade concerts. The PTA also provides strong support and fundraising for valuable field trips.

Very nice school, the staff really tries hard to gain more parental involvement.

My son just finished SIES, and I have to say that it took a while, but in the end I was happy there. The teachers that he had were wonderful, but I do believe that the school is having trouble keeping up with its fast growing size. Several times I had issues with poor communication between staff and parents, and the excuse was that the school is very big. Once I understood that I needed to be the one to initiate contact and communication, things got better.

I agree that this is a great school. It is a beautiful building. I have one son who finished this school and one who is currently attending. It is only for third and fourth graders and I am very pleased with the academics and the extras like swimming and music lessons. The teachers and the principal are great too.

This school is the greatest. It has nice teachers from homerooms all the way to special needs. Everything my fellow students would need. The hallways are divided up into different colors that go purple, peach, green, pink and blue. Then there are computer labs a, b and c i have had all three. The teachers are ms.Carrel, ms.Yercanin, and ms.I forget her name. Then it goes to the lunch room. The lunches are very good (not always good looking though.) Then come the art rooms with ms.Stodard, and mrs.Ropchak. Then comes the guidance consular`s. Next is the gym with the teachers mr.Riley(he is my favorite)then mr.Lewis, then mrs.Deshcriver, and mrs.Sevenson. The office comes next that holds mr.Walters and the assistant principal mr.Berton. Down stairs holds a pool, and special needs classes. Now remember its round you wont get lost you will go around until you come to where you started!

I believe the school is, in general, a good one, certainly compared to NYC schools, where we moved from. However, I believe that the school is growing rapidly, and the staff is having trouble handing it. I've had several occasions where communication between school and parent is lacking, and the response is that the school is too big to handle each incident satisfactorily. Their reaction is one of defensiveness - overkill on discipline, too much attention to test scores, not enough concern about the individual students. Also, since the school is only a two-year school, there is very little feeling of community and pride.
