My children have attended Propel East since the school first opened its doors. I agree with the comment submitted on April 4, 2009. The teachers have been wonderful to work with and are genuiniely interested in each child's individual learing experience. My concerns are not with the teachers but with the administration. This school year (2009-2010) about half of the staff are new. What concerns me is there has not been an attempt on the part of the administraion to address this with the parents. Also we have experienced problems with one of our children being bullied with little action from the school. The administration makes unilateral decisons concerning the education of our children and does not seek a unified approach involving parents.

What you have to remember as far as turn overs for the teachers is that each year another grade is added and in the 09-10 year they will finally be at K-8. Many of the teachers in the lower grades move up to the higher ones each year. So once the next school year is done, I believe less turnover will occur. I have had nothing but good relationships with all staff and teachers at Propel and would recommend it to anyone.

I feel that because this school is still new and growing, these things are bound to happen. Turnover is expected while adjustments are being made. As for bullying, the school has in place protocols and a hot line for us to call when we need it. I have had nothing but good experiences with the staff and administration. They have worked well with my children and viewed us as part of the team.

After four years of my child attending East i am very disappointed in the lack of growth and willingness to work in several areas. The continuous turnover rate with the teachers and new VP every year is very nerve racking. If your child is being bullied, be prepared to not get far with that also. Although some of the teachers are amazing i find to many with not enough experience under their belts resulting in an unruly classroom and a lot of problems. I would recommend doing your research. Good luck.

Parents moving to the Pittsburgh area should consider getting their kids on the waiting list for a Propel charter ASAP (apply on website). They are amazingly good and the public schools in the area are notoriously bad by comparison.
