I showed my son this website. We used to live in Allentown, but were in Parkland School District. He said, 'Mom, can we please go to this school? It looks so cool with high scores.' I accepted his question, and then we moved. It was a great school with high scores really!

I have been involved with Steckel Elem. for the past 5 years and have been continually impressed. They have caring and committed teachers and administrators who always put the students first. My daughters have had teachers who have gone above and beyond to teach them more than just the basic curriculum. They also have a very active PTO which provides many programs and activities for the children.

The quality of academic programs is good. If your child is interested in music there is the recorder for the 3rd grade and drums etc for the 4th grade. I work in NY so it is difficult to attend PTA meetings, but I get information sent home on a regular basis, so I am kept up to date. My only area where I am not too comfortable is how the kids are placed in classes . There seems to be a silence about the method and you are told not to request changes if you are not happy with your child's placement. More open discussions or some other method is needed showing reason(s) for placement. If your child is placed in a class that works to slowly for him/her you do not feel that you have the right to ask for and receive a change.

The faculty at Steckel is very clique-ish and snobby. The school is large and although there are many opportunities, I feel that the teachers are more worried about getting out by the time the bell rings.
