I just moved in and changed schools from Pleasant Valley, and I have to say, this school is not as put together. They need to straighten up. I mean, not even a week after I came, A teacher was almost fired because he cursed at a student. There are fights occasionally, and sometimes even on lockdown because there are fights outside. It seems in my point of view that the teachers couldn't care less about us, I think they do it just for the money. I understand that they try hard but it's not good enough. The school's books are all torn up because they don't have the money to replace them, and frankly that's just distracting, because we're wasting time looking at what people wrote in the book, instead of learning. There is definitely some racial tension going on with my classmates, and to me, that's just sad. Sorry if you are a nice teacher looking at this and if this offends you in any way. Thank You p.s. incase you didn't realize it, i'm a student.
Its going on correctoin action 2 the no child left behind that the feds are backing its a very poor academic school that should be taken over by the state
I believe that G.A.R is the best school around Wilkes-Barre compared to Coughlin & Meyers because Coughlin has an infestation of cockroaches & Meyers roof is caving in so G.A.R my best bet. Well i loved G.A.R.
this school may have its ups and down, but over all its teaches are great, the food is the best in WBASD,sucurity is very good. The only problem is the fights. Were #2 in most fights in WBASD, only to be beat by Myers.Though the fights dont usually require any adult intervintion, they die out pretty fast.
Gar is the best skewl i hacve ever been tooo.....The sports are great it great the teachers care bout u .....
My daughter went to GAR and it was awful. Most of the students were disrespectful and were very immature. The teachers dont know how to control there students and the students lack school spirit. I would never even consider this school again for my children.
They have the best band in the area and teachers who care. There music teacher is a very strong woman that keeps on going to help teach our children music and get them ready for districts. Even though she is going through a rough time herself with chemo she is still there for our kids.
Gar highschool may nnot be a top of the line school, but it creates a wonderfull learning experiance. Im a junior at GAR and I wouldnt trade my last 4 years for any others in any other school. The teachers here are layed back, but they give you the push you need and teach you that not everything is handed to you and not everyone is fair like we'd like. I love it here<3
G.A.R. is a good school where you can learn plenty if you apply yourself. The majority of the teachers are friendly and willing to aid you in your endeavors. The two problems that I see in this school is the indifference that some of the students have toward their grades. The other thing is the lack of A.P. classes. Despite these, do not let them deter you from pursuing an education here. The class sizes are nice, and the information is presented well and in a logical order. I ve attended large school districts too, and the education is the same because public school systems nationwide are designed to teach what the Department of Education wants. As long as you realize the vitality of good grades and give it your all, you ll be ready for the road ahead by attending this school. ~ E. Kleist
My son has really grown in this school and has the respect from many teachers. He made the honor roll for the first time ever..Im so proud of him and his teachers are easy to contact and talk over things with me...way to go GAR and thankyou!!
this school is the best. everyone is so nice. I'm a seventh grader there and its my best school yet. but its very hot in the summer but you get used to it. it all really depends on the student though. but I love it there. so have fun;]
We moved here from florida about 2 yrs. ago and put our 2 kids in this school. Since then our kids have been assalted harassed and discriminated against. They do not offer a safe enviroment for your kids to study or participate in sports. The teachers are ok, but could stand to be more assertive. There are fights everyday after school, less than a block away due to lack of security.
as a former student at gar this school is great they have alot of great teachers and students the state avrage test scores are lower because some of the students dont care
I am a former student of GAR. I am in my third year of college at a very competitive school, and GAR has prepared me nicely. Especially strong are my Math and English skills. The teachers in these departments are wonderful! If the student is motivated and does their work they can come out of GAR prepared. The problem with GARs standard test scores is a lot of the students don't try. But I have always been in advanced classes and all of my fellow peers in these classes have gone on to good schools well prepared by GAR's faculty.
