The principal is outstanding and the teachers/staff members that I have dealt with have 'can do' attitudes. They deliver consistent professional and positive attitudes and seem committed to helping each child do their best possible work. As to parental involvement, that's seems to need some improvement. As of January, 2011, our family has about 1 1/2 yrs. of experience with Locust Grove Elem. School.
I am a parent of a fourth grader at Locust Grove and I couldn't be happier with the school. I have had the opportunity, or perhaps misfortune, of living in multiple states through the course of not only my daughter's education, but also my niece's while she lived with us, and I am very pleased to say that I have never been as impressed with the teachers and administrators elsewhere as I am with those here. I am only sorry that Mr. Shick had to move on, but I am pleased for him that the opportunity arose.
My husband and I are simply amazed at how much our son learned in Kindergarten at Locust Grove. Mrs. Sheaffer is a wonderful, patient teacher who teaches kids through wonder and discovery. I don't even think my son realized he was being taught because he just enjoyed it so much. He is now able to read, write, count by 10s, add, subtract, count money ... and he's much more confident and outgoing. He was also encouraged through his art, music and athletics. We love Locust Grove, the principal and the teachers!
We've been very pleased with our experience at Locust Grove. The teachers consistantly send home information about what is going on in the classroom, the staff is always quick to respond to concerns, and parents are welcome in the building. My child has excelled in this environment and I feel confident that she will be in a safe and nurturing atmosphere every day. I can't imagine having my child in another school in our area public or private - and being as pleased as we are.
