I am an alumnus of York County High School. I had a hard time in regular high school. In the usual public school system of the U.S. I just didn't fit. After graduating from York County High School in 2002, I went to York College of Pennsylvania where I earned degrees in Biology and Chemistry with honors. During my undergrad years I interned at the Graduate School of Oceanography in Rhode Island and with the NASA Academy at NASA's Ames Research Center. I am now a graduate student at the University of Colorado in Boulder. I am currently working toward a Master's Degree in Geological Sciences and I will likely continue on after that with graduate studies for a Ph.D. I cannot stress enough how crucial York County High School was to my success as a scholar and a scientist. Their school is welcoming and their staff and faculty are friendly and approachable. Students learn at their own pace. Regular public schools can be more beneficial for some, but there are those of us for whom the American public school system has failed. Thank you, York County High School.
I am an alumni of York County High School. I graduated in 2003 with a GPA higher than 3.0. When I arrived I was sixteen, I graduated three months later at 17. I am now 21 and enrolled in YTI career institue for Criminal Justice. I loved That school I was a troubled High School student with failing grades, at York County High School I graduated and with good grades It is a wonderful alternative for an individual who is a good independent worker.
YCDS is an all around fantastic school. Music & Arts are high in the curriculum- the productions put on by the drama department are top notch (the teacher is a broadway actor!). Teachers are dedicated to their work, and are excellent at motivating students. All areas of academics are pushed in an equal matter, and students are kept in small class sizes with lots of individual attention. Parents are encouraged to be involved, and stay involved. Out of school/extracurriculars are very good. Sports are adequate- being a small school there is no football/cheerleading/baseball/etc, but there is Soccer, Field Hockey & Basketball. Coaches are brought in from outside sources and are professionals in their fields (for example: soccer is coached by british ex-pros).
