How do I become better familar with the school system

You should make an appearance in person to your school district office to start so you can find out what schools you are zoned for and to get more information on the enrollment process. But it sounds like you want to have some schools in mind by the time open enrollment starts.

Once you've decided on some schools call them to find out when they have tours. Visiting a school is the best way to get a feel for it.18986
