My girl turns 2 and a half this march. We have started the IEP process this week and were given two pre-schools in LA that she may attend. Nora Sterry (Sawtelle and Santa Monica) and Brockton (Brockton and Wilshire). I need any advise regarding either schools.
My daughter has speech delay. She is 30 months and has not spoken a word. She comprehends and follows directions. Her hearing and vision are fine.
I am also interested in Magnet or Charter schools for K - 5. What are the process. When do I start to apply. Her birthday is mid Sep.
You should focus on preschool now. There aren't many magnets for kindergarten, and even so, you'll have quite a while before you need to worry about magnets or charters. When you are ready, feel free to visit the Los Angeles community (to the right, use the Browse by City link) and you'll find several posts on applying for magnets.
I'm in the San Fernando Valley, so I'm not going to be much use in the preschool recommendations. However here's a few articles that will help you choose wisely: http://www.greatschools.org/articles/?topics=143&grades=198&language=EN
How young can a child be to start an IEP at school? Our youngest son also has a speech delay but he just recently turned 2. Currently we're going through Kaiser. But was curious at what age we swich from going through Kaiser to a local elementary school.67637
I believe that the IEP process starts at age 2. My daughter has special needs. I had her attend a Montessori school until the age of 6. It was amazing. You might want to read about Maria Montessori and how she developed her curriculum based on children with special needs.73178
