I am currently a student at FASRI. I am in 7th grade. I have been studying here since the age of 3 and the same goes for the majority of my classmates. We are in a very small middle school: only 17 students. We have a great relationship. We consider each other like family! I am sure that when we all graduate from this amazing school that we will missed each other greatly. I'm actually really surprised about all of the negative comments. We are all COMPLETELY bilingual, which may I say, is quite a feat, AND we are at an advanced level in English language arts! We are always improving. We have incredible teachers that not only teach us the skills required for high school, but also constantly motivate and support us. There is a no bullying policy and the environment is so welcoming and supportive! I am so thankful that I have been able to spend so much time here! :)
This is a great school. Not only does it deliver a wonderful bilingual education, but it is also a really great environment to learn in. The teachers can be slightly strict, but they are also extremely encouraging and they teach very well. All the students and parents and teachers are very dedicated. I went to this school for 10 years, including the Middle School, and I cannot sing its praises high enough. I have made many wonderful friends here, and since it is a very small school everyone forms a very tight bond. I could not imagine going anywhere else. I come from a completely American family, but now I am bilingual. It is really and truly an amazing thing! I was very upset by the negative comments that I saw below, since neither me nor my friends have ever experienced any of the things that they referenced. Merci beaucoup, FASRI!
I am a middle-school student at FASRI and I think this school is great. Since it is a small school, students are more engaged and participate more. I have been with this school since the age of 3 and most of my classmates as well. Everyone in our class is now fluent in French and English and now we are also learning Spanish. We hope none of you take the negative reviews seriously. Thanks, from The Middle Schoolers
This is a great school. I've been in this school for 8 years and I really love it. Because many kids improve their french and english and many other languages. Not only it's a great school, but also everyone is like a big family, everybody knows it each other and it creates a warm environment. Compare to some other schools, this school is very safe and it is very rare for kids to be bullied. The teachers are great and helpful. I came here to the US not knowing any english and because of my teachers now, I speak english like an american. I feel like I know everyone in the school because it may be a small school but it's a very special school, in many ways. Pour tout le monde qui parle francais, cette cole est vraiment chouette!
This school rejected our child's application on the basis that they felt that they could not meet our expectations (parents). Our expectations were described as holding our child to a standard of excellence and that the school should not criticize or hold back our child when performing at an excellent level. It is clear that mediocrate sets the standard in this school, not exceptionalism. We are appalled that this is the case since a break from this terrible norm is what directed us to this school.
Not a very good school. Teachers touch kids and yell at them. I regret ever sending my child to this school. I then transferred my child to Hope High School and saw a huge improvement in its academic abilities and social levels.
Our son is fairly outgoing and open to trying out new things, so he has been thriving at the French-American School and loving the immersion into the language and culture for three-plus years. The greatest strength of the school is the faculty, who are almost without exception very talented and dedicated teachers who work to bring out the best in their students. There may be students for whom the demands of the work and the immersion approach may not be ideal, but it has been terrific for us and for so many of our son's classmates.
My son is in his 5th year at FASRI and we love the school. He is bilingual and has strong interest in other languages and cultures. The academics are rigorous and the teachers and parents are very dedicated.
I attended FASRI when there were only 8 kids enrolled at a building on the corner of Hope and Montague. The Principal is very dedicated and has devoted her self to the education and enrichment or her students. The french education is very solid with a complete immersion program. The teachers come directly from france and other french speaking countries like the ivory coast. The only flaw is with the english program which was not enough for kids who would join a public school in the future. Also the math program was not at all like that taught in public schools making the transition rather rocky. All in all it is a great school that will teach kids to speak french and open their eyes to cultural diversity.
Excellent school, my son has been a student there for 2 years, I am impressed with the rigorous academics but also by the level of commitment and care of the faculty. The Head of School has been wonderful. My son is happy to go to school in the morning which in my opinion says a lot. It is truly a multi cultural education.
After one visit more than 10 years ago, I knew my future children would attend the French American School, an environment of rich culture and diversity. This is a diverse community where more than 20 languages are spoken at home. There is not only the rigorous academics of a French education, but the French culture and close community & family unmatched by other independant schools in Providence. The faculty is caring & dedicated and the parent involvement is exceptional. For a fledging school of 130+ students & reasonable tuition, the children get a great education. They are challenged and excited about learning. I LOVE FASRI.
The teachers and language teaching is generally pretty good. The problem is the principal. She creates the kind of environment that's completely unacceptable for the care of children. We're withdrawing our child before it's too hard to get her into a quality school.
