I think overall Silver Spring is a good school - we finally have an awesome principal in Mrs. Cullion, but to go as far as to say that the children are polite - that is stretching it just a bit. Like every school, Silver Spring has its bullies and quite often my daughter is a victim of them and more often than not, these rude children are not reprimanded for their behavior so that poses an issue. However, in other aspects, Silver Spring is a great school, but more attention does need to be paid towards the bullies
Silver spring is so much more than 'just a school'. The children are polite and truly are proud to yell road runners are special! It is much more a loving and nuturing environment with compassionate staff and was one of the first in the state to adopt a school wide positive behavioral program. just walking in there you can just feel this school is like no other!
My son has adhd and ocd and loves his kindergarten teacher Mrs Sprout! He actually comes home and wants to do activites in his workbooks and talks all about what he has done at school. The office staff and principal are excellent. I am very happy to have my son in this school
Our daughter has improved immensely in every subject since beginning school at Silver Spring in the second grade. Her teacher and principal are very personable and helpful. They are very responsive to our child's needs and go above and beyond to make sure she is doing her best. Silver Spring has music, art class and sports, but only one day a week, which is just a sign of the times, but not enough in my opinion. However, the teachers for these subjects are able to do a lot with very little and our daughter is excited and doing well in these subjects. We are often surprised by what she learns in music class and that the teacher finds a way to make this interesting. Our daughter comes home wanting to talk about Ray Charles and Tchaikovsky and seems genuinely interested. We are overall very pleased with this school.
