I don't have children in this school, but I ride the bus every morning from kailua to Honolulu. Every morning there is a group of about 6 kids with this school's uniform that each takes one row with one seat for themselves, and one for their backpack. When other people get on the bus, they joke around and do notice that they are taking the space and do not even try to move their backpacks to give their seat to other people including the elderly. It is very sad that the school and parents are not taking the time to teach their children to be altruistic, respectful and good citizens.

This school does not deserve the rating of "8." Many kids are having lots of problems at this school. The teachers do not teach the students - they hand them the work and expect them to do it without any type of instruction or guidance. There is no communication and no accountability or trust with the teachers - they are part of a union - so no one can touch them - not even the principal or superintendent.

My son just completed 8th grade in the GT program and I am sad it is all over. It was a wonderful experience and he recieved an excellent education. The principal was very responsive and the Band teacher is probably the top in the country, my son not only recieved a great education but learned to get along with all kinds of kids from every economic background. There were very littlie reports of fights and drugs which is more then I can say where I grew up in the 70's on the mainland. I would not waist your money on private school save it for college and send your child to KIS. We were very happy and as always it is what your child goes home to that is important, Snap grades were great I can't say enough good things about the program.

One person runs that school and it isn't the Principal. If there is an issue with one of the Teachers, the staff circles around that teacher wrong or right to protect them at the expense of the students well being. Assignments are given out and never graded. The staff treats the children and parents in a very unwelcomed mannter

If parents are willing to drive the extra distance, why wouldn't they be allowed to choose? Every school is not a match for every child and parents know their children best ... More »

Definitely! I believe that families should be allowed to attend any school they want, because there are some who went to a good school and parents want what's best for their kids. Even education.
