I grew up for the most part in Idaho City and graduated from the high school. Though the teacher/student ratio is nice, the academic program is overall, a very poor one, and many of the kids don't even try. Many of the teachers aren't encouraging except for a select few. And compared to other kids within the state, the kids of this school have never been as smart, especially in reading skills and English. Even though I graduated three years ago, I still see kids that are just awful in these subjects. It's quite sad to me to see these kids doing so poorly, and it's not necessarily THEIR faults. It's the school system's fault. Again, great teachers--very nice. But overall, this school needs a better academic program with much higher expectations, which is what these kids need if they're gonna survive out here. I had to learn on my own.
After teaching in a number of school districts across Idaho, I was a bit apprehensive about the academic program here. To my surprise the staff, the academic programs and the student/teacher ratio combines to be a very good school! I was pleasantly surprised at the excellent staff and the excellent program of studies. I appreciate the small school and having the ability to actually work to meet all the students' needs. The curriculum was just as demanding as the other school programs I taught at. The staff is dedicated. I do find that the students have fewer expectations for themselves, but the staff is continuing to encourage and motivate the students to set higher goals. Overall, I am very pleased and glad I work at such an amazing school.
I've ben going to school here since 1999 in the 4th grade and I graduated here. The teachers know each student personally, but I really don't think that the academic program is very good... the kids in Boise were smarter than most kids up at this school were, or so it seemed. I know that I learned more at my school in Utah than I ever did at this school.
This is a fantastic school. It is so nice to have a lower student/teacher ratio. The teachers and principals actually know each of the students. The academic program is excellant and the staff is open to new methods and all types of student projects for learning.
