My daughter and son are both graduates of Detour Schools. They are doing exceptionally well at Albion College and I believe this is due to the caliber of teachers they had during their years at Detour. Thanks to a forward thinking administration my children were not limited to classroom only education but rather were encouraged to learn through web based classes as well as individualized internships outside of the school. Their successes are Detour Schools successes!

To say that DeTour Area Schools 'pushes' athletics on students is an extreme exaggeration. Yes, it would be nice to see more students get involved in sports, but to say that it is forced upon them is absurd. As a matter of fact, student athletes are most times the same ones who excel academically. DeTour Area schools prides itself in being one of the most advanced districts in Michigan in terms of the technology that it offers. Wireless internet exists in every classroom as well as a roaming set of computers so that every students has equal access to computer usage. DeTour Area Schools works to create well-rounded, responsible, self-disciplined individuals with a wide variety of interests. To accuse the school system of caring more about athletics than academics and high moral standards is spiteful and without warrant.

DeTour High School is low on students. Due to this shortage of students; they pressure teenagers to compete in sports programs to an extreme. The school, it's teachers, sports coaches and the locals take the Sports Programs to an extreme. They teach their students that the other teams are their 'foes.' Sports Programs are not supposed to be this competitive. They also force their students to 'burn the candle at both ends.' Sports Programs should be 'fun' for the students and played with 'good sportsmanship.' Students do not learn these good qualities at DeTOUR High School.

If parents are willing to drive the extra distance, why wouldn't they be allowed to choose? Every school is not a match for every child and parents know their children best ... More »

Definitely! I believe that families should be allowed to attend any school they want, because there are some who went to a good school and parents want what's best for their kids. Even education.
