We absolutely LOVE Oakland. 2 of our children attended the school in 2010 and 2011. The principal is incredible and really puts his heart into the school, his staff and the students. Our boys seem to be at the same level academically as children at private schools in Atlanta. Their teachers are involved and have always kept us involved and aware of where our children are at both in academics and socially. It's a huge loss to our community that the school board would shut down such an incredible school. They did nothing but harm our children and the entire county by taking this away. Our sons benefited greatly, in all areas, by attending Oakland.
The school is an older one, and doesn't have an adequate parent pick up area, or parking. They rope off the parking area because the play ground is right there so since it's one way, that makes it hard if I have to pick up my kids early from school. The new principal I give a thumbs up! The one right before that was really mean to my children and was always picking on my son. Even went as far as to tell him that I'm a liar, because I told him my son has never been in trouble before, and he hasn't. Now that principal has given him a bad name. It's funny how the new principal doesn't have a problem with my kids at all! All in all Oakland is a good school and the new principal is a great guy!
I have went to Oakland, my children also, and now my grandchildren are attending the school. This school is not supported like the schools in town. children do not get the attention by the media (pictures) posted when needed to be displayed. The principle this last year has seemed to forgot his obligation to the school and let matters slip through his fingers. My opinion he has let his home matters interfere with he job he is getting paid to do. Year books are late, seems like maybe the order was not sent in time for an early delivery. Maybe with a new principle coming in he will get some people off the seat and put them to work this next school year. Hopefully before they decide to close the doors due to poor decision making. This school is too important to the community to just let it go down. T
