Ms King has done a great job with upgrading Dumas. Her mission could be completed if she could continue to upgrade on staff.Half of the staff has a 'ghetto' Mentality.

With a new principal at Dumas things have been going great. When Ms.King started the first year was a little rough. I am a recent graduate from Dumas and yes the school was lacking a lot. I have to go to a high school I didn't really want to go to because the vice principal didn't send in my high school applications and I turned it in early. Hopefully they can make it a little but more better. They need to be more organized.
I am a parent and have had three children go through Dumas. And I must say this school has been very substandard in all areas. Lack of teaching materials, curriculums are very weak and not challenging to students, must of the teachers should be re-assigned or retire. The pervious principal should have retired 10 years ago. The school is under new leadership now who seem to be trying to turn it around however, it will be a long haul up hill based on the demo-graphics of the school There are always a hand full of teachers that actually care about the students and are creative and challenging but most are just burnt out and need to be replaced. If it wasn't for my involved with my children they may not have succeeded as well as they have. School needs big overhaul if it doesn't turnaround it probably should be closed down.
I can understand why statistics report low ratings and criticize chicago public schools. For parents who have to send their children to the attendance area schools because of financial or other reasons. It is a disgrace and disservice to the children and the parent to have to be subjected to troubled institutions. This school is below in every area possible. But I do believe that the new principle Mrs. King can at least make a positive contribution to ensure that this school not only increase scores but morale as well.
