West Marion Elementary School leaves a lot to be desired. There is currently no way to tell where the school actually stands academically because the accountability tests have been negated through 'mandatory homework'. Mandatory homework is taught poorly at school in order to 'engage the parents' at home. Parents who send their kids to this school can expect an average of two hours of poorly taught homework every day in which you, the parent, is the teacher. Parents are coerced in to becoming the teachers without any consideration that they have to also earn a living. The accountability tests cannot measure this schools performance separately from its dependence on parents and would probably fail to do so. The accountability test scores for WMES are high and fraudulent. Parents are treated as a free resource on which the school depends.
