WMS cannot get a break. Parents complaining need to volunteer and get involved rather than criticizing constantly. For the people who disliked Anderson, I guess you're happy now, but don't whine when the discipline suffers in the absence of his leadership. He kept my child safe with his no nonsense attitude. If your child is well-behaved and dressed appropriately they won't have trouble here. It is a beautiful and clean school also.

As an educator, who could afford to send her child somewhere else, I chose not to. MY child has received an excellent education at WMS. While I do not always agree with everything that goes on at Washington, I do believe that they have their students best interest at heart. My child's test scores have risen since she began Washington 3 years ago. The ONLY reason they have not met AYP in the last several years is because of the large Special Ed population. If we were to put the Sp Ed kids on the other middle schools in the county they would not make AYP either!!

I agree that the administration is unwelcoming, but I truly believe that the majority of teachers at this school give more than 100% on a daily basis. The disposition of the principal at conferences is quite intimidating, and the teachers almost seem hesitant to speak as well. We know the make-up of this school (i.e. large amount of economically disadvantaged students), and the difficulty that the teachers must have in trying to teach middle school students that are functioning below grade level. Give the teachers a break, the school a try, and speak to your Board Members about serious educational concerns that you may have. While I agree about the excessive dress code issues, it doesn't cause in-depth harm to a child just because they are reprimanded. Spend your time with your board member discussing real issues regarding professionalism and the qualifications of the one leading this school.

No. I have heard of teachers setting up FB pages on areas of study so students can use technology as a learning tool. All posts are public and private messages are disabled. I won't even friend former students. I do it as a rule-no hurt feelings.

No! As an educator, I don't want to be held responsible for what students are doing outside of the classroom.

Absolutely not. Most schools offer the homework question site through the school system. They do not need to be "friends" with their students through social networking sites.
