This school is a nightmare. The administration has absolutely no control over the students, and do not support the teachers or staff. It is an environment fraught with violence and anarchy. Burroughs is a complete failure in every sense of the word.
My son started in the six grade, he'll graduate this year. The school had been wonderful experience for us. Due to budget cuts the GEAR UP program ended last year. My son is in the top 10% of his class and challenged to succeed. I don't think officals have a grip on the students. We thought we would send our 5th graded in the Fall, I think not.
I am a parent of a 7th grade student at burroughs. In 6th grade my daughter had an overall good year. My biggest concern about the school is that the staff,(teachers, security, councelors, parents, principal), have no control over the students with behavioral problems. I have walked into the school hearing students swearing, talking back, fighting and playing. The staff seems to let this get carried away at times. My daughter is a well-mannered, well-behaved student who wants to concentrate, learn and get good grades in a comfortable, controlled environment. If we stick together as parents ,staff and students, we can make Burroughs one of the best middle schools in the Milwaukee. For children to be well-behaved in school, it must first start at home.
