I have two kids at St. John. We enrolled them after moving to the Park Circle area where public elementary schools are lacking. What a great resource for families in the area. My kids are thriving there because of the individual attention they receive. My kindergartener loves to read and with focused attention from teachers in several grades, she is now reading at the 5th grade level. My 2nd grade son is participating in accelerated math and reading. But the true test is when I pick them up from school and ask how their day was. The response is almost always, 'Great!' With small class sizes, each child has the opportunity to feel connected, take on leadership roles, pursue their interests, and feel safe and nurtured.

My sons have been at Saint John for over 2 years now, and I wish we had found it sooner! It is a hidden gem, one where the faculty and staff are excellent at what they do in collaborating together to find the best way to teach each individual child. They do not use the 'factory model' of teaching and instead find out the way that each child learns best and adjust their teaching methods and material for that individual. This allows them to help children to keep making continuous progress - they do not make children who are ahead sit around and wait for the rest of the class to 'catch up', nor do they leave a struggling child to flounder because 'the schedule says we must move on'. This is as close as you can get to a 'home school' environment in an organized educational setting. Absolutely priceless.

I browsed this site to learn what defined a 'great school,' and found: 1. Test Scores/Academics - St. John can provide the latest favorable statistics - I can say our children and their peers are learning at an advanced rate that perhaps more importantly is really tailored to their particular strengths and needs.2. Teachers/Curriculum - you will not find a more committed group of educators - they know our children well, and use a philosophic combination of 'tried and true' with new ideas to get the most out of students. 3. Environment - the parents are involved at a high level, the presence of faith is strong without alienating non-Catholics, and the school is safe in terms of structures and procedures and locale. In summary, our kids are doing very, very well and cannot wait to go to school each day - I don't know what more you could ask for.
