I have two children in this school. We are from out of state and after the first year here I was repeatedly homeschooling them in addition to public school. This is due to WME's lack of teaching and curriculum structure which seems to be nearly two years behind the grade.. It is absolutely ridiculous. Reading is usually the homework and this year alone I have yet to see any math. I did, however get a paper offering math tutoring for my children due to the school failing to meet the state requirements. My children are finishing up October and at that time I will pull them out completely. I urge you to find a better school if you're considering WME. I understand this school was average at best a few years ago but this year, 2010, I'd rank it as the worst elementary school I've seen.

I love West Marion because it is the best elementary school in our county! The administrators, teachers, assistants, cafeteria staff, etc. have the children's best interest at heart! They care more about the child than what they have to do to the kids to get test score results! Always kind to any child not just the most fortunate! They make all children feel like they are special and that they can learn! Love this school!!!

I am impressed by the interest and concern for the students by all of the staff at West Marion Elem. Coming from a large city this was sorely absent in education. I feel as if my grandchildren are all in capable hands when I drop them off in the morning. Not only for their safety but their education as well.

We test kids at the end of the year and beginning. Kids that don't keep up during the summer take a giant step backwards. If our kids do complain about homework, we ask them,"Do you want to work for a company, or own the company?"

No. Let the children have a break. Let their minds focus on being children. They'll have plenty of homework when they go back to school. I would not even consider enforceing summer homework for my children. They need stress free playtime.

Yes. Of course summer is for fun however they can take a brake from homework 2 weeks or so, not the whole summer. If you teach a child the importance of learing they will enjoy the homework even in the summer.
