I have had 2 children advance from Nichols. They were both challenged and well educated. Both have done well on all state exams. 1 more to go!
I have to say we had no problems with kindergarden, but once my daughter hit 1st grade it was a disaster. The teacher insisted that when my daughter was done with her work she was to help other students finish there's. My daughter is very bright and we have since moved her from this school and is in 3rd grade now and in Gate. Nichols labeled my daughter as a problem child and said she was not at grade level when we transfered her. Since her transfer she has gotten citizenship awards and as I said started Gate this year. Nichols principal and teacher both seemed to not want to work with my daughters personality or recognize that they were not meeting her needs educationally. I would not put any of my children at the school again.
My daughter just completed kindergarten at Nichols and I was definitely impressed with the school. The staff are caring and willing to attend to the needs of each student. My daughter was never bored (she is an above average student) and was given extra work to keep her motivated. I love the uniform policy and I loved that the kindergarten has it's own separate play ground away from the big kids. We are looking forward to starting 1st grade! Nichols is a school that you can send your child to with confidence that he or she will succeed even with all of the budget cuts we are facing here in Oceanside. The principal is outstanding as well and he is always out interacting with parents and students.
Nichols has a good curriculum and the students seem to really enjoy the staff. As a parent, I love the uniform policy! There is early release every Wednesday (which takes some getting used to) and my 3rd grader has a good amounts of homework Mon-Thurs night. I am satisfied with Nichols and would recommend to others.
