I love our school for many reasons. Even though our school is in danger of shutting down you would never know it in the attitudes of the teachers and students. There is a true caring about the students with our teachers, it's not just a job to them. They give of themselves after school and if needd evenon a week-end. To win this would help our school stay open so our children can continue to have special teachers like those at our school

It is apparent in the level of writing skill (or lack thereof) which of the prior posts are relevant. Montello is a relatively empoverished, small, rural community with limited resources and in that context I believe this school does a very good job. There has been a transition at the District Administrator level as well as the Principal and both gentlemen have been quite well received by the community and their staff. Parental involvement in Montello Schools is a shortcoming. The local culture here is not one of embracing your child's school so much as defending your child when the school tries to 'do something' to them. Children will succeed in Montello if they are cooperative and willing to try, if they have troubles with conformity and lack a respect for authority or are discouraged by parents they will have much less of a chance to succeed.

I'm offering this as one students perspective on Montello High School. A previous poster suggested this as a school where only the smart will thrive. I was doing so bad in that school I was forced between dropping out or graduating a year and a half late. I choose to drop out and get my HSED, where I graduated head of the class, and now I'm in a state college for IT. Montello High School failed me and the majority of my friends; who, dispite failing out of their classes at Montello High also went on to recieve higher education and enter managment level positions in various companies. Mrs. Ellenbecker and the late Mr. Day were shining examples of what teachers can and should be. There may be some others in the school that fall prone to stereotyping and generally fail to try with some students.

By doing it in the funnest way possible,we have to make it exciting for them. Maybe reward them after they are done AND DID THERE BEST. Parents must be totally involved.

You shouldn't, have a study hall if they need help. When you learn you need a teacher, students can study on their own time.
