I just left Sevierville Middle, and I am now heading into Sevier County High. I can say from my experiences at the middle school that most of the teachers I had, and even some I didn't have, were guides and friends to me to the fullest extent. If I ever had a problem with anything might it be, things at home, school work, or just needing someone to talk to there were teachers willing to provide time out of their busy day to sit down and work it out with me. I'll also say there were a couple teachers who in the beginning seemed to be favoring more of the students who dressed better, or talked out more in class, or were athletes. But as the year went on by the students opened up, and the teachers listened. By the end of the year, there were no favorites. I'll miss it.

I am disgraced to see what the person before me has said about this school system. It seems to me as if certain people, namely the volleyball and basketball players, don't have to follow the dress code as strictly as many others.

I am a parent of students at SMS. My oldest child just graduated from high school in Sevier County. I TOTALLY disagree with the first parent review of this school. My family is not financially advantaged, my children get average grades and have wonderful friendships with other students, and VERY caring teachers. I have been associated with this school, its principals, teachers, and other staff for over a decade. This is a GREAT school! I have NEVER seen a problem that everyone hasn't bent over backwards to resolve for everyone's best interest. Anyone having a problem with this school's administration, or staff needs to communicate straight with them, let them know if there is a problem, because they ARE here for the student's best interest! I've talked with many former and present students of SMS, THEY ALL LOVE IT! And none of them are socially/economically advantaged. SMS is a great school!

There are a few dedicated teachers in this school. There are more teachers here that are just drawing a paycheck. The principal/teachers allow the 'seemingly' financially advantaged parents/students to rule the school. It is very apparent by who the 'popular' students are. Even children that excel in their grades or activities are not chosen as 'students of the month' or 'class/team recognition' in a lot of cases. Teachers are allowed to say disrespectful things to the students, even in unwarranted situations. Unless a parent is really observant to what is going on, and is willing to go face to face with a teacher/principal, very little is done to correct this. Students that are popular with the teachers/principal very much have an advantage over the other students... many of the less 'popular' kids feel very slighted by this. If a truth without consequences poll could be taken by the student population I imagine it would be a real eye opener for the educators at this school. Mostly the educators are comestic instead of truly being there for the students.
