It seems to me that if a review is going to be posted on a public website, the reviewer should have to include their name. It is so easy to be critical if you don't have to take 'credit' for what you are saying. Swallows Charter Academy continues to out-perform many of the schools in District 70, including being one of two high schools that attained AYP for last year. SCA accomplishes this without being exlusive with any marginally legal student acceptance and retention policies.

I have to agree with the June 2003 comment. This was a great school with an awesome set of teachers. When the new board took over, it hurt the students education the most. The Core Knowledge Curriculum takes time for teachers to learn to teach effectively (approx 3 years) You can tell the quality has suffered. However, after many years, the school is on the road to bouncing back. The board has turned over and the devious ones are gone leaving the key focus on the improvement of education and not pushing personal agendas. The administration dicipline in the middle school is severly lacking but can be handled if you persue one on one. The high school has been kink free this year and is somewhat challenging. I recommend this school because it is still the best option for public education here in P.W.

Swallows is not without its hardships, but it is as if everyone is in a large family. I have been part of this small school community for 8 years, unfortunately I have to leave, and I WILL MISS IT so much. Everyone there is dear to my heart, This is a great school, your child will learn SOOO much! I loved it there, although, I do not recommend sending your child to their new high school, let them have a normal high school experience.

Swallows earns high scores on CSAPs. The numbers only tell part of the story. Students and their families pay a high emotional price. We used to love this school, but we do not expect to return next year. The new administration is consumed with program expansion rather than delivering a quality program. Attempts to reconcile bigger problems with administration have been frustrating. Administration discourages communication between parents, and between parents and teachers other than progress meetings. So far, about 30% of last year's staff is not returning. Morale is suffering, teachers seem angry and they yell a great deal at students. Discipline is extremely inconsistent. A high school is being added at this small location - in trailers. We have serious concerns about high school students in such close proximity to grade schoolers. Too bad, it used to be a really great school.
