School system is ran like a buisness and the office is more concerned about you coming to school than student well being or student education. Powell county high has no pride in their school because it is not a fun interactive enviroment. it stands like a prison, cast in stone and full of people who are counting the days until they can just get away.
As a senior here at powell county high school, I've been through all of the classes and teachers that I need in order to pass, and I do believe powell county is a great school. However they need to realize that the students are IMPORTANT! and that some teachers are cut out to teach. If the majority of the grade says they don't understand how a teacher teaches then it's a clear sign that that teachers isn't very good. The best teaches I would have to say in this school is by far Mrs. Carty and Mr. Barron, both have taught me so much and I'm very greatful.
As a student of this school, I am pleased to say that it is one of the best in the state. Teachers actually connect with there students here. It helps the educational process proceed with the highest results. Also, the extracurricular activities are great here. For example, the marching band made it to state this year. The first time in about 10 years. Everything is improving, and with new staff members now, improvements are being made with the greatest speed possible. I am a 9th grader, and from my students point of view, this school is great!
i believe that powell county is one of the worse schools in the 56 district. they are too focused on putting the school on the 'map' instead of test scores. on the CATS test, out of 232 schools, Powell County High School placed 220. There is absolutly no student or teacher moral, or school pride. Teachers along with their students hates coming to school. Their reading program is a tramendous mess due to the Accelerated Reader Program, and has placed goals too high for students to meet. The school is to focused on incoming 9th graders and not enough on the other students. We do realize that the majority of drop outs are from 9th graders, but there are other students that can drop out as well.
