This is our second year at SPES, and we have experience in all three grades. My kids have been challenged and nurtured by the teachers and staff. The academic standards are continually evaluated and updated to maximize student learning. The school has an awesome positive behavior reward system. Parent involvement is encouraged and there are diverse ways to be involved - literally something for everyone. If I have one complaint, it is the emphasis on End Of Grade testing (EOG). Throughout the school year, this emphasis ramps up. I don't fault the school so much as the entire state/national testing policy, but parents should be aware of the testing. I do feel that SPES works hard to encourage the kids to engage and perform up to their ability on the test in positive ways.

My daughter attended SPES for two years. The school is very old, but is adequately maintained. It is located in a high end neighborhood and surrounded by beautiful historic homes. My daughter and I both enjoyed the teachers and administration.

This is my sons second year coming to this school. The teachers were great last year and just as wonderful this year. The students welfare are most certainly at the top of the list at SPES. I also appreciate the fact they encourage the students to be responsible for writing their H/W down and bringing home what they need to complete their assignments. Kudos to the new principal Marcy Cooper!!

If parents are willing to drive the extra distance, why wouldn't they be allowed to choose? Every school is not a match for every child and parents know their children best ... More »

Definitely! I believe that families should be allowed to attend any school they want, because there are some who went to a good school and parents want what's best for their kids. Even education.

Families should be able to attend any school they wish.
