As a parent of students at the school, I am very pleased with my childrens' education. There is huge parental involvement which help give teachers opportunity to focus on the kids' educational needs. Because our school has a high academic rating, other schools often try to diminish what we do or how we do it. There isn't a lot of tolerance at Sargent for out of control kids, which sometimes leaves parents who never actually parent their kids to become angry & move to another disttict. No school is perfect, but this is a great school and the kids get a great education!
Sargent School District is by far the superior district in the San Luis Valley. The Elementary has been over-hauled acacdemically with help from the past principal and it's excellent staff. People are friendly and students are expected to learn and perform within reason. It is an excellent enviroment and your child with succeed only if you too, are committed to your child's success.

Sargent School has an exceptional group of teacher who take time with each student to make sure they are excelling academically. Sargent students are expected to perform academically.

The school has an unfriendly staff and stressful and military type atmosphere. The local reputation for high quality education is at best undeserved and outdated more realistically, a complete fabrication. Many parents have volunteered to help, only to be refused or asked to help somewhere else (where your children are not). Discipline is all handled by the principal, teachers are not allowed to deal with even the most minor issues. The principal is unfriendly and uncontrolled. In light of the atmosphere and consequences to self esteem, it is not likely a child will learn much.
