There is good reason why Sandwich High is one of the top-rated schools in the country. There is now a new superintendent (and a wonderful new track). Earlier comments regarding these needs can be disregarded. Sandwich High is a great place for learning in a great, caring community.
Sandwich High School is a DISGRACE!!!! Read the review by "a teacher" here.. Another huge bullying incident involving a "senior" member of the football team, bullying a freshman.. Covered by the Cape Cod Times, and "covered up" by the school administrative staff!!! Years ago, The Cape Cod Times did a front page article on the "MASSIVE" bullying problem at the school, reporting that it "was the worst of all the schools on the Cape". That article was written over 20 YEARS AGO!!!!! Sadly.. nothing about this school has changed much!
Very happy with the high school. Lots of opportunity for kids that many schools are missing. Math department is excellent. Teachers are supportive and communicate well with parents. School sports and extracurriculars are abundant. Theater group is well attended and productions are spectacular. I was concerned about the block schedule system but it has worked well for my child. I agree about the abysmal condition of the track and football field but it is my understanding those are to be replaced in 2010.
If you have a child with any learning disabilities you will be very unhappy with this school. The superintendent has cut special education programs drastically in this school district and she is ruining what was a pretty fair school system. She has made comments such as 'the special education children just don't try hard enough, that's the problem.' Your special needs child will fall by the wayside unless you get an advocate to fight for what your child needs. Appalling that you have to actually pay someone to fight to get what you child is entitled to but that's what it has come to in this town, very sad indeed. Many good teachers that have their hands tied and shake their heads at what's going on in this school system. The teachers encourage the parents to get an advocate to fight the schools. The superintendent needs to go!
