As an Edison teacher, I find this review highly disrespectful and totally false. Edison Schools reach for the highest levels in academic achievement possible. It means we MUST work harder and meet with each other on a strict and consistant basis. Our monthly computerized test, aka benchmarks, are a simple measure of what the teachers have accomplished in the classroom. Perhaps this former Edison teacher was not as willing to work as hard as needed in order for the Edison design to work. If the problems at this particular school were as horrible as some have mentioned, perhaps the blame would lie with the organization and administration of the school, and not the Edison design. Perhaps the focus should be on the educational qualifications of the staff. For the author of this review to state to all parents to 'pull your child out of Edison schools' is wrong and uninformed. Sounded to me that her problem lies with a challenging design she was not ready to rise to.

As a former teacher at Garfield Edison, I can only say ' Get your children out of Edison Schools!' When they say they are a for-profit corporation, they are telling you the truth - their profit, not your child's education. The best interest of the students is the last thing on their mind, the dollars they receive from Flint Community Schools is their only concern. The teachers get no money for supplies, no support for discipline from the administration, and no time to teach - meetings, meetings and more meetings. The innovative and award-winning teachers are encouraged to seek employment elsewhere (where's the Honors Choir?) and the remaining teachers are forced to teach from scripted lesson plans to computer tests demanded routinely from all students every month. Critical thinking and problem solving are eradicated from the minds of teachers and students to feed 'good scores' to Edison headquarters in New York.

Contrary to what the former parent said, Garfield Edison is the best school that my daughter has attended. The teachers are caring, and the principal has made a big difference in the school. The school has won a golden apple award for their achievement. You must visit the school and see for yourself. You will be so surprised at the good things that are going on there! Many times parents get upset with teachers and the principal when their children are required to follow school rules. If you want your children to attend a school that is well organized and values high achievement for their children, enroll them at Garfield Edison! If you want a factual account of how the staff and school is doing, go to the lansing website and visit the harris poll interactive website to find out how parents really rate the staff, principal and program!

Garfield Edison used to be a school I was proud to say my son went there. But now under the new principal and the lack of care for the children, I will never recommend it to anyone. there are poor health conditions and teachers are probably found in the streets. Now I'm glad my son is outta that place.
