My children have gone through the Arlington School System from kindergarten to high school. We have been very satisfied with their overall education. Their small class sizes, safe/caring atmosphere and abundance of qualified teachers shouldn't be taken for granted! We recently moved out of state to a much larger school in a metropolitan area. Now more than ever are we appreciative of what we had in Arlington.

The Arlington School District offers an incredible program of studies to students. My children have been in this district for the past five years, and I couldn't be more pleased with their progress. I have a degree in education and have worked in higher education for 15 years, and I know my children are being challenged academically, are cared for by quality teachers and will be prepared for life after high school. US News and World Report has named Arlington Memorial High School a 'Best High School in America' for the past two years.

Arlington succeeds in educating students through small class sizes, devoted teachers, and involved and caring principals. Students are able to take classes according to their abilities, with ample extracurricular activities (band, theater/drama, sports, newspaper) to develop talents and character. Students not performing school academic requirements are strongly encouraged to succeed through a mandatory after school program. This school cares about its students.

This school has completely turned their back on the special needs students. When you call them out for failing to follow and IEP, (especially in the middle level) the teachers spend more time and energy coming up with reasons why it is not their faults and it was nothing that they have done wrong. If you question their actions, you and your child are labeled for good. The teachers are great at identifying what and where the problems are, but they are completely unwilling to do any extra to get the kids going in the right direction completely unwilling. If you think that is sickening, you should meet the superintendent, no one thinks higher of him than he does. An extremely condescending man just interested in keeping his cushy retirement job in VT. Like Dodge Ball? Just ask him why enrollment is so far down.

If parents are willing to drive the extra distance, why wouldn't they be allowed to choose? Every school is not a match for every child and parents know their children best ... More »

Definitely! I believe that families should be allowed to attend any school they want, because there are some who went to a good school and parents want what's best for their kids. Even education.

Families should be able to attend any school they wish.
