I would like to thank all the person(s) for taking the time to share their thoughts about the academy. I think the comments are valuable, and I ask that you continue to post comments. I will periodically read your comments and use them as a source of inspiration and motivation to continue to improve the quality of education we offer children. While there has been some concern over school leadership and parent involvement, I want to emphasis my desire and intention to serve our students to the best of my ability. Furthermore, I want to sustain an environment where all stakeholders play a significant role in service to our students. Despite the many challenges that our school face(such as safety/crisis, NCLB/AYP, MEAP test, special education, etc.), I believe these challenges can be met with integrity, compassion, patience, and skill. However, irrespective of my intentions, I cannot do it alone. Everyone must play a role. Parents, teachers, custodians, students, administrator, etc. must do their part to ensure our children are recieving the best education and educational experience possible. I am responsible for setting the tone for the school. Parents are responsible for setting the tone at home. My hope is that schools and homes will work together to model, practice, and reinforce a shared expectation for our students. It starts with building an relationship. In conclusion, I extend an invitation to build a relationship with all parents of students at the academy. A relationship built on a shared mission, vision, and expectation. A relationship not based solely on immediate short term needs, but a relationship where tradition and legacies are established. A relationship where problems are addressed proactively rather than passively. A relationship in which great school are made of.
My daughter attends this current year and my son graduated 2 years ago. I personally like the school , becasue of the teachers they are well involved with the students even when they are a difficult group of children. what I don't like is the school somtimes places to many children in one class which makes it difficult on the teacher to keep the class organized and on schedule

My son attends the Academy of Westland School; this is his first year. The staff and teachers are very helpful to both my child and I. I am a single working mother. And the Academy of Westland School is very close to where we live. The student is required to wear uniforms (which I like). The curriculum and extracurricular activities keep my son busy. This school is very interested in my child s welfare. I feel this school goes above and beyond the call of duty in many aspects of life, education, teaching and mentoring.
My child has been at academy of westland since kindergarten and to be honest I really don't see the school improving at all. So many good teachers gone. The school is beginning to run down. Every week something has changed as far school rules or programs. The principal is what I call a fast talker he says what he wants you to hear. I love it when he says how good the school but yet his own children don't attend there. Half the time he's not even there and the students and teachers have to be there at a certain time so why is it fair that he can scroll in when he gets ready. The water isn't clean the bathrooms are horrible and let us not mention the portables(filthy). The kids come out of the school using so much profanity and teachers are standing there not saying anything.
