Having completed a bachelors and two masters degrees, I know that I received an excellent foundation at PGHS. Yes, the students drink a lot and sports is always a focus in a small town, but the teachers and the curriculum are wonderful. Having compared my education to other students from around the U.S. (including my current home in a suburb of Washington DC), I know that I had an outstanding education comparable to some of the most expensive private colleges on the east coast. If you can tolerate the small town environment, the school is definitely worth the move.

As a graduate from Pilot Grove high school, I can say that the effort and suuport the teachers give is phenomenal. I can't remeber a day after school or early morning when there wern't at least four teachers in before 7am. The empahsis on sports at the school is a bit much. I participated in theater, drama, and acadimic clubs and always felt as though, I was a second class citizen to the 'jocks'. Alcohol is another factor in a small town. theres nothing elese to do so why not drink? It takes a strong person to say no, and be themselves.

I can't tell you how wonderful the teachers are. They are a most impressive group of teachers that I am very grateful to have had the pleasure of meeting and being a student under. The students are able to get very close to the teachers, and when I graduated I didn't only see them as teachers, but as some of the closest friends I've ever had. As far as the student attitudes, they stink. It is in a very small town where the main focus is alcohol, not only among the students, but also the parents. There are a few students that are not sheep, and don't follow the leader as far as alcohol is concerned, but it is a very hard school to go to if your child doesn't have a strong standing of who he/she is and what they believe in.

If parents are willing to drive the extra distance, why wouldn't they be allowed to choose? Every school is not a match for every child and parents know their children best ... More »

Definitely! I believe that families should be allowed to attend any school they want, because there are some who went to a good school and parents want what's best for their kids. Even education.
