Hello. I am in my 5th year as Cedar Island's princpal. I am proud to serve this school community. One of our great strengths is parent involvement. We have parents volunteering daily at Cedar Island. Parents help by working with children on their curriculum, doing clerical work for teachers and organizing school social and fundraising events. Cedar Island regularly has test scores above state and district averages. We have a gifted and talented program for students who qualify and have a full service special education program. We also have programming for children with developmental and cognitive disabilities. Our facility underwent updating in the summer of 2004. Our hallways were brightened with new lighting, we have all new windows and air conditioning. This year, 2007-2008, we have a reading incentive program called Bobcats Read! Our goal is to read a total of 1 million minutes. Children have certificates for reaching different goals such as our '1000 minute' monthly reading club. We also participate in the Reading is Fundamental program. Children get to pick out 3 books during the year to keep - free of charge. I encourage families who are researching schools to check us out and get a tour.
I have been impressed with the dedication of the staff at Cedar Island. I was always warmly greeted by the office staff, found the principal easy to talk to, the volunteer coordinator super to work with, and the teachers well prepared, hard working and they made learning fun for our children. attenCedar Island.
