I love the fact that we have small class ratio with teachers/students. average 1-15. a few bigger a few smaller but none over 20. We are a small town our school is very parent friendly.

My son attended Valley Elementary grades 1-4 and had excellent teachers. He was a child who required guidance throuhout because he was a bit of a clown at times. He was and is very bright and was challenged to do well. I am proud of the education that he received while at Valley. He had caring, dedicated teachers.

The instruction in this school is focused on the middle or average. Students in the lower and higher percentiles of ability are short changed. Teaching to test as the grade levels progress is a norm in the school and results in students who see learning as something you must do to acheive a score rather than a way to develop your mind and skills. There is continuous learning among the teachers but I am not sure how much of this is to get scores up instead of inspiring educators to inspire students.

What a wonderful environment for the children of Bath County--to grow up in such beauty. However, the school system need quit a bit of work. The lower school has wonderful teachers but the middle school teachers leave a lot to be desired. What ever happened to teaching the indivdual child who is an individual? Teachers at this level expect the kids to be, at and learn within the 'box.' Individuality is discouraged and, in many cases, punished. The high school's not much better. Boy was I glad to get my kid out of there.
