Ms. Janicek is a superb principal and the school behaves as if it is a top notch private school. By enforcing a zero tolerance on bullying, Ms. Janicek taking the time and effort to learn every child by name and using strategies like allowing select 5th Graders to volunteer to be a special team to "patrol" the kindergarten grounds on recess helping smaller children problem solve their issues: they create an environment where it is safe for the children to speak up for themselves. Our children learn to look out for each other and be accountable for their actions.

My daughter is graduating Center Street School next week. We had an excellant experinece. My daughter attened CSS from K and I have to say every teacher she had was great. The education is challenging and the principal is very involved and very approachable. I highly recommend it. I feel very confident that my daughter is ready for middle school.

Overall, a great school. Teachers are responsive and involved. I'd like to see less busywork in the homework, and more emphasis on music, math and language. My son loves being a student here.

This school does well up against the average LAUSD elementary school. There are some minor flaws in their academic regimen, however the teachers are responsive and most are caring. Administration has never seemed overly courteous, but I do not deal with them often.

Our six-grader Daughter, enjoys the freedom of choice. We allow her to pick and choose as she makes good choices, she has demonstrated responsibility in her decisions. Making (Pizza) & Tomatoes) are Vegetables came from USDA. Freedom of Choice.

No. I prepare my son's lunch just about every day due to his special needs so I know what he is consuming both for him and his class. I want to be aware of all ingredients in all foods/drinks which he is consuming.

If it is to keep allergic kids safe, then no. A strict rule of no peanuts or pb&j should be enough. My child's school had a peanut free table for double insurance. If for "nutritional" reasons, then NO! Since when is pizza a veggie????... More »
