User Rating: 5 out of 5 stars by Kathy 05/24/2010 If you have a "special needs" child then Hershey is the school we would recommend you place your child in. We feel so blessed to have had very loving and caring teachers/staff/paras since enrolling our child at Hershey after moving here from out of state 2 years ago. What could have been a great challenge, has turned out to be one of the most positive experiences we have had. I can say without hesitation that everyone who has been involved in our childs education at Hershey, both main stream teachers as well as resource/speech/OT have gone above and beyond our expectations to make sure that our child, who has a diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and ADHD, has received the best possible education and attention we could have asked for. Little did I know after researching all the local schools before moving here, that we would be so blessed to be able to look back and say that we definately chose the right school for our child and his needs. Fourth and Fifth grade have been such a great experience for us all thanks to such dedicated staff/teachers/paras.

Hersey Elementary has a great learning environment for the students. The principal and vice principal are highly motivated and know every child by name. The school is very welcoming overall and has a lot to offer every type of student.

If you truly mean a shy kid who wants to be outgoing, then I would help them interact with one child at a time. If you are talking about an introverted child, refer to http://www.carlkingdom.com/10-myths-about-introverts

Find something you are good at or enjoy doing a lot, just one thing. You'll gain confidence and meet other kids that enjoy that activity too. Mine was singing in choir. I wasn't good at anything else but that built my confidence for other things... More »
