Alton is an excellent school and deserves much more praise than it receives. The teachers are so devoted and genuinely care about the academic and personal success of the students. The fieldtrips, tutoring programs, "banking day" events and other programs like last month's black history program create new experiences and motivate the students to learn. The principal is a strong leader and displays a wonderful mix of guidance, discipline and compassion for the children. Alton is a great place to educate our future leaders.

Not enough or any discipline. Therefore, if your child is being bullied expect him/her to slowly become depressed from the constant bullying. Even after it is reported nothing will happen except for documenting it! After taking over since 2 years ago, the new principal seems like a paycheck is most important. The teacher's are excellent!!! Parental participation is has become better in the past 3 years.

Before my daughter started going to school at Alton Elementary, I was hearing rumors that it was a really bad school and that I would not want to send my daughter there. I soon found out after my daughter started going to school there, that the rumors I was hearing was so wrong. The class size is small, so the teachers have more one on one time with the children and the staff puts so much time and energy into the school. As for the behavior, I have not encountered any problems with that. The school is lacking some in parent envolvement, but there are so many things to make up for that.

Teachers who are firm, tough, yet fair, are mislabeled as, "bullies." This is such a ridiculous and false accusation. I got a tough job but I love my job and I care about the students. People don't have a clue what I do or the challenges... More »

How I handled it varied depending on the circumstances. Teacher bullying is child abuse-proove it 1st! If teacher/pricipal/staff won't stop-go above their heads-Seek help from PTO's,administration, schoolboard, media, even CPS-Child Protective Services.

No one should put up with this. Take it as high as you need to go and follow up everything in writing. Even so far as going to your local paper. School A tolerates bullying and won't help children being victimized. They will listen after that!
