I am a former student of Roxbury High School and couldn't say enough good things about my experience. If you have an open mind and want to try a little of everything, then everything is available to you. I was involved in so many things that I honestly couldn't even explore half of the activities offered. Vocal music, instrumental music, shop, sports, theater... When I think back to all the things I was involved with it makes my head spin. The school doesn't have windows. That fact has been a fun conversation piece ever since I left, but it really won't bother you until the dead of winter if you're a winter athlete and go a few months not seeing the sun. Violence? Not a problem. A scuffle is bound to break out now and again but there was never a time the staff wasn't in control.
I love honors programs and the AP classes. The teachers are very approachable and want to help the kids. My children have made wonderful friends and have learned how to get along with kids of different backgrounds. Three of my children have gone on to college and I felt that they were well preprepared.
choir and band are excellent,so was orchestra but Mrs. Griggs leaving was very, very disappointing to the students and parents. Sports and parent involvement are excellent but if your not involved with any of the above than you must be either a 'trouble-maker' or invisible. There are only windows in the front of the building so it's old and dismal. school security is good--as long as they like you there's no problem--otherwise little harassment's do occur and can escalate into other problems. Unless your into sports big-time i wouldn't bother with this school!!
