This has not been an ideal school for my children. The teachers and school staff do a good job, however, we have encountered problems with racism against our children from other students. I realize that HWP is not very diverse, but this does not excuse the fact that our children have come home upset about being bullied for being a different race than the majority of the students. Since starting here, their grades were not equivalent to the ones of their previous school (which is ranked as one of the best schools in the state). They are taught the fundamentals that they need, but the state scores for the school are not what we had hope for. Unsure about how the transition will go for the school switching to the Montessori system of teaching. I hope it works for the school. The deal with the issue of racism is the main reason we are dissatisfied.
I do believe our school could be doing better! Our children are being forced to sit for exactly 2 hours everyday to read and their grades don't show it. We still have 2nd graders who can't read a lick.
