As a rural elementary school, there is not a lot of extra curricular activities like in a middle or high school. However, this school does do literacy night once every 9 weeks where kids can come and hear stories, do a craft, get a snack, that is all fun and family motivated. They have safe halloween trick or treated with the halls decorated very cool adn creepy. They are doing a carnival for the first time since we have attended, and they offer summer care for students where for $10 per child you get 6 weeks of day camp activities sponsored by the sheriff department. This school does not have the money or parent involvement that schools in town offer, but they are doing their best and my children and I love the teachers and the staff.

I have taught at East Marion since 1978 and feel it is a fantastic school. My six children and several neices and nephews went there and all have done well in their academics. The principal we have now is fantastic and they are planning on us not having one next year.

My son and I love this school. The teachers are wonderful and the school puts forth every effort to involve parents in their children's education. The school has many activities throughout the year such as Library night etc. Being a rural area for the safety of the children on Halloween night the school stayed open so the kids could 'trick or treat' to each classroom and all the teachers decorated the halls and got dressed up (great costumers). The staff including the principal go above and beyond. This is the best school my son has attended not facility wise but staff wise and that's what matters most.

If you truly mean a shy kid who wants to be outgoing, then I would help them interact with one child at a time. If you are talking about an introverted child, refer to http://www.carlkingdom.com/10-myths-about-introverts

Find something you are good at or enjoy doing a lot, just one thing. You'll gain confidence and meet other kids that enjoy that activity too. Mine was singing in choir. I wasn't good at anything else but that built my confidence for other things... More »
