Maplewood Junior/Senior High School

I grew up in the area, went to Townville, before this school was forced to re-district with Guys Mills to form Maplewood, as did my spouse, my father, my in-laws; my children also went to the school, as well as nieces and a nephew. Maplewood is not the same place it was thirty or forty years ago, and even though times have changed, many rooms in the building are still caught in the 70's. The PENNCREST school district often leaves this attendance area in the dust! Sports fields are neglected, classroom books are neglected, even the desks students have to sit in are 40 and 50 years old, and not made for current technology or class activities. The good thing for our current enrollment of students is the caring staff of teachers, good principals, and an understanding community. The bad trend that is developing is the loss of instructional programs - such as the arts, and the overloading of classrooms with students who have special needs, and the limits put on the school budget, while students are required to do more fund-raising to offset the financial woes of the school district.

I grew up going to Maplewood (Penncrest School District). Out of any city and state that I have lived in since attending this school, I would have to say that Maplewood is the best place to raise your kids. It's a small town school and everyone is willing to help. I didn't come from a poor farm family. My parents were blue collar hard working individuals and we were middle class (not lower). The teachers are willing to help a student 1 on 1. The extracurricular activities are quite broad for not having more than 1000 students. If you are looking for a safe environment, with great teachers, and a great curriculum, go here.

Maplewood does well for being a rural school. The teachers are almost always lifelong residents of the area. There is very little violence. The majority of the students come from poor families, farmers, etc. The sports programs are decent but suffer because of the distance between students' homes and the school (which is located far from anything.
