Boyd Elementary is an incredible school that always seems to go the extra mile in academia and demonstrating love to our children. My son was in kinergarten and received instruction in Spanish and computer technology. The also planted a garden in the Spring. (The only recommendation I have was that I wished the Spanish instruction was more conversational than vocabulary words.) There are not enough words to describe how truly incredible his kindergarten teacher and principal are!!! Many schools may use the excuse of having an old building, but this did not hinder the caliber of education and the level of captivating enthusiasm of the teachers in the slightest! I am so impressed!! If only more schools could be like Boyd Elementary!!
Boyd Elementary is an awesome school...the teachers and staff know every student by name...as well as the parents...every parent is a member of the pta...my kids have both excelled at this school. They use a different teaching curriculum than most public schools. The program is an international system run in a joint effort with Drury University and Yale. Drury students are active in the elementary school...every student has a member of the community *lunch buddy* that meets with them for one on one time each week. My son is in 5th grade...has gone through all 5 years at this school and is reading at an 11th grade standard. The curriculum here teaches the student about life and how their education relates to it..not just testing. They teach spanish from kindergarted. Several afterschool programs are run Drury students. Most of the teachers have Master's Degrees and also teach at Drury.
Boyd Elementary School demonstrates excellence in all areas. The educators care about the students. Students are assessed frequently to assure academic success. The classes are small. Last year my second grader had a 1:14 ratio and my kindergartner has a 2:22! The families at Boyd are engaged in activities throughout the year promoting community support and involvement. The curriculum is outstanding and challenging! There is support available to students who need extra help and accelerated programs for those who need them as well. Spanish starts in kindergarten as well as technology training! This school is truly like a family who believes in rallying to ensure our students are successful!
