Our son has flourished greatly at the Highlands School. He has gone from C's and D's to the honor roll! The public school he previously attended tried to help, but did not have the resources or were not willing to do more. The decision to transfer to the Highlands saved his life, because staying in a no-win situation would have contributed to low self-esteem, delinquency, and possible self-medication using harmful substances. This school is exactly where he needs to be!

My son began attending the Highlands School in 7th grade. He was bright, but due to dsylexia had a difficult time spelling. Traditional schools saw the problem as ADHD rather than a language problem. At Highlands he finally learned to spell, and more importantly, he learned how to compensate for his weakness. By the time he left, he was eager to write 15 page stories!

My son attended this school for 2 years. During that time the personal and academic growth far exceeded the expectations. His was being pushed thru the local public school system and not educated or on track to receive a MD High School Diploma. His current aspirations are to complete college and do research on the heart or to design roller coasters. His test scores rose in all areas within 6 months. The staff consitently reevaluates to refines the student's program to take a child from where they are to where they need to be. Public funding should be made available to offset the cost of tuition because what my son achieved in his 2 years of instruction has more than surpassed the poor quality of education that he received at the middle school level in his local public school. All of the staff are specialist and very good at their jobs.
