It is sad to see, but Cowan is a far cry from the good school it used to be....poor leadership, divided populations, some teachers are great but some are so awful it's just not worth the gamble. No school is perfect, but this one just keeps getting worse instead of better.

Most of the teachers are great. Administration needs major help, and school culture is poor. The school's performance over the last 6 years has not improved - check the API trend.

I would rate the school higher for the teachers, kids and parents only. But, the administration is very weak, and the communication is extremely poor. The front office isn't run in a manner that is friendly or inviting. The culture at the school is not supportive If you question the administration. The division at the school isn't racial, it's self serving. With the great kids (and family support) in attendance (of all nationalities), there is no reason the test schools shouldn't be climbing, but due to the lack of leadership, this great school is declining, the moral is poor and the families that work so hard to build the school up, are finding it easier to leave. The fund raising has all but stopped by many families and it's not due to the economy. The parents are saying enough. I hope for more for the school.
