Taylor Street Elementary School

i am a parent with a child that attends this school and she is in kindergarten and at this level my daughter super exceeds what there starting to teach her. She is about 2 years ahead of where they are. They should be learning numbers, math, reading, and other basic challenges but they are learning colors and counting. This is a very poor school academically and also as far as the condition of the school which is lets just say poor and outdated. Its very sad that these children have to suffer because of poor teaching and bad educational planning descions. My daughter will hopefully be attending a different school next year.

This school is so great the kids start tomorrow (08/03/2009) & we parents are still viewing the 2008 school calander on their website. Oh and let's use all that budget money to renovate the whole school... even 'pave the playground' ,only it was paved 4months ago (who pockets that portion). They want to put air conditioning in the gym and the offices but NOT the classrooms our children sit and sweat all day. All schools received a stimulous package that was SUPPOSED to focus on curriculum and the childrens needs...we have the most basic curriculum in NJ, like that other mom said they do the bare minimum of basic skills. I must admit my child had 2 amazing teachers so far but the school itself puts limitations on those teachers for how outside the box they can go. If you have a brilliant child or one with special needs forget Taylor!

Personally, I do not consider three out of five stars an adequate rating. Curriculum is taught and designed for a minimum standard of achievement, the kind that trains kids to reach for only for exactly is required with no motivation to exceed standards. My experience thus far has basically been one where both the teachers and administrators are either unfamiliar with state mandates regarding gifted and talented, or they are gatekeeping. I cannot really decide which would be better; I suspect they are stuck philosophically in an educational system that ceased to exist at least several decades ago. The teacher/administrator dictates the culture and curriculum and both students and parents abide by those rules. At best, I consider this school mediocre daycare.

Both my children went to taylor street.I found that the things they should pay attention to they dont.As far as special classes they do not pay attention i would not recommend this scholl.The only thing they seem to be interested in is showing off tier arts and crafts instead of the positive learning that they lack.I just don't agree with a lot of the things that school focused on.The sports teams are excellent if that the only thing your interested in.
