My child enrolled in 9th grade and was miserable, made no friends. It's very snobby. The teachers are not helpful, if the child needs help they are not interested. It's a typical private school, attracting teachers who want the student to be trouble free. The public high schools are much better in that regard. There are some very good teachers and some who are just there because they want an easy job.

As a parent, I was a little disappointed with the education at STAB. It seems that there are good teachers, but there are also teachers that probably should be retired as they do not motivate the students or make their classes interesting so the student wants to learn. The biggest complaint we had during the 5 years our child attended STAB is the lack of communication between the school and the parents. The facilities do not come close to that of the public high school that our child would have attended. I think they are making progress in this respect, however. Also, no cheerleaders which is an embarrassment during football season. Weekly chapel was a plus.

Although STAB has some excellent teachers, it falls well short of its self-proclaimed 'best school in Charlottesville' status. We sent all 4 of our children there expecting that they would be academically challenged, well coached in sports, encouraged to become leaders, and shown a set of values which mirror those taught at home. We are extremely disappointed and are withdrawing our kids mid year. The list of colleges that graduates attend is equally as or less impressive than the local public schools. Leadership is not encouraged. No dances, no academic societies, not much in the way of clubs and after school activities.
