Batavia high school has a great academic program with many different course offerings for such a small school. There are quite a few AP classes available, about a dozen GCC classes can be taken right in the school and the opportunities at BOCES are amazing with the ability to learn a trade or get a head start on different career paths (Heath and Legal Academies). However Batavia is led by a relatively weak administration who tries to restrict students and their activities in an attempt to hold power over the student body. Sometimes it feels like the majority of students must pay for the mistakes committed by a minority of the student body. The extracurriculars are quite popular with many different choices but as with most schools the Athletic program tailors to superior athletes and thus causes relatively unathletic students to suffer and feel left-out. I rate BHS a B-.

Social Studies has the strongest academic program with a talented team of teachers that work hard to engage their students. Math is the weakest unfortunately - some teachers do a great job but not all. This is a big concern. The administrators seem to be enforcers and not approachable. There is NO PTA or parent representation. Actions speak louder than words...they only use the words! There is disharmony btw. adm & staff - apparent to all. I have concerns about the adm. in the district- several lack basic leadership qualities.
